More Details ā–¼

I started doing paid magic shows when I was just 12 years old. Since then, over the course of 25+ years, I’ve left literally THOUUUUUSANDS of audience members laughing their asses off, from all walks of life; from doctors to farmers, from lawyers to factory workers, and from police officers to motorcycle clubs. I’ve entertained at special events for companies such as Budweiser, Ford, Chevrolet, 3M, Honda, U.S. Cellular, Wal-Mart, and Facebook (to name just a FEW), and my nightclub appearances are too numerous to even list. I’ve been featured on NBC, ABC, PBS and the CW in the USA, and on TV-3 in Europe, have a couple million views on YouTube, and am the recipient of The Justo Hijo Magic Award from the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

I’ve entertained at Awards Nights, Banquet Events, Bars, Beer Gardens, Casinos, Christmas Parties, Colleges, Comedy Clubs, Comedy Nights, Company Events, Company Parties, Conventions, Corporate Events, Corporate Parties, Country Clubs, Festivals, Fraternal Organizations, Fundraisers, Golf Courses, Halloween Parties, Holiday Parties, Motorcycle/Biker Rallies, New Year’s Eve Parties, Nightclubs, Office Parties, Private Parties, Public Events, Pubs, Resorts, Taverns, Theaters, and more.

Biography:

Part magician, part comedian, and totally dysfunctional, Nathan Tricky Allen performs a highly-caffeinated blend of magic and comedy!

Yes, Nathan Tricky Allen is a magician, but don’t be fooled – you will see NO tuxedo and NO sparkly boxes in this show.

Instead, Nathan combines sleight-of-hand magic, stand-up comedy, dangerous tricks, stupid stunts, immature pranks, and hilarious (and unpredictable) audience interaction into one of the very few magic shows in all of America that is both geared for adults AND funny.

The best trick up Nathan’s sleeve is his ability to connect with a crowd, and it’s a trick that regularly ignites standing ovations at a wide range of parties and events throughout America, from comedy clubs, to biker bars, to Fortune 500 corporate events.

Known for being naughty and tons of fun, without being gross or offensive, Nathan’s personality-driven performances have been described as ā€œOne of the funniest magic shows EVER!ā€ (Happenings Magazine; Kenosha, WI), ā€œStar entertainment!ā€ (Inside Magic; Los Angeles, CA), and ā€œA laugh-filled night with a wild and edgy magician!ā€ (Seattle Performs; Seattle).

The International Brotherhood of Magicians presented Nathan with the Justo Hijo Magic Award, based on skill, originality, and entertainment value. He has performed at private parties for heads of state, has appeared on NBC, ABC, The CW, PBS, and TV3 (Europe), and he has been invited to entertain at special corporate events across America for 3M, Budweiser, Ford, Honda, Chevrolet, Wal-Mart, and Facebook, to name just a few.

And yet, in a typical example of his priorities, he insists that he is most proud of being elected Class Clown.

Based out of Dubuque, Iowa, Nathan entertains at nightclubs, casinos, comedy clubs, country clubs, company parties, and corporate events throughout the Midwest and across America.

He loves coffee, hates snow, and enjoys arguing with the television… when it’s turned off. ā–

General Questions:

How did you do that?
It's Magic
Is 'Tricky' *really* your middle name?
Yup. Long story.
Can you pull a quarter out of my ear?
What? No. Call the doctor.
What's up your sleeve?
Nothing.
I have nothing up my sleeve.
Can I bring my kid to your show?
Probably not.Ā  Most of my public performances are at events and venues with 18+ or 21+ age restrictions.

But, more importantly, my show is not for kids, for theseĀ three main reasons:

  1. I do some dangerous-looking tricks you would not want a child to try at home (razor blades, broken glass, etc.)
  2. Children wouldn’t understand much of the humor in my show, and that means it simply wouldn’t be very entertaining to them.
  3. Many adults don’t feel comfortable laughing at adult humor, references, and innuendo while in the presence of a child… Even though these jokes go “over the heads” of children anyway, people stillĀ tense up when there are children present… and when people are uncomfortable and afraid to laugh, everyone’s enjoyment of the show suffers.

So… to sum it all up:Ā  No, don’t bring the kiddos.Ā  Book a sitter and come out for a fun night.Ā  You’ll have a great time.

You're not gonna pick on me, are you?
My comedy-magic show is VERY interactive, but it’s all in good fun; I don’t “pick on” anyone in a rude or embarrassing way. So grab a seat up front and center – you’ll have a great time. Promise.
Can you make someone disappear for me?
Sure. But if you need it to look like an accident, it’ll cost extra.

Booking-Related Questions:

Will a magic show work for an all adult audience? Aren't magic shows for kids?
Most magic shows would NOT work for an all-adult audience. But mine DOES.

The unfortunate truth is, when most people hear “magician,” they think “lame,” “boring,” and “cheesy.”Ā  I get it.

This is because many magicians…

  • šŸ™„ …are so focused on doing their TRICKSĀ that they forget to entertain the audience…
  • šŸ™„ …take themselves SO SERIOUSLYĀ that they’re not very fun to watch… or…
  • šŸ™„ …act SO CORNY that only littleĀ KIDSĀ find them amusing.

Whatever. To each his own.Ā Ā ButĀ I Do Things a Little Differently:

  • šŸ‘ My focus is on having fun with the audience, not on the tricks,
  • 🤪 I do not take myself seriouslyĀ (probably to a fault), and…
  • šŸŗ the show is not for kids.

If you’re planning a party or event for adults who like to laugh, your crowd will LOVE what I do.

Exactly how ā€œnaughtyā€ is your show?
That depends on the event and audience on any given night, because I have become VERY GOOD at “reading the room” and adjusting the content of my show as needed.

(My comedy club shows are quite a bit more “rough-around-the-edges” than my corporate event shows, for example.)

Regardless of who my audience is, my show is funny and for ADULTS, but isĀ NEVERĀ over-the-topĀ raunchy or obscene;Ā Ā There isĀ NO nudity, NO explicit or disgusting stories, andĀ NO angry rants about sensitive, hot-button topics.

Do you use any audience participation?
Yes! My comedy-magic show is VERY interactive. People love to see “one of their own” brought onstage to become part of the show. And it’s all in good fun; I don’t “pick on” anyone in a rude or embarrassing way. After the show, I guarantee you will hear the onstage participants saying that they had “so much fun” – even the otherwise SHY folks.
For what types of events have you entertained?
I’ve entertained at a wide range of events (both public and private); Corporate Events, Private Parties, Comedy Clubs, Theaters, Festivals, Fundraisers, Casinos, Resorts, Nightclubs, Bars, Country Clubs, Golf Courses, Awards Nights, Banquet Events, Beer Gardens, Holiday Parties, Colleges, Comedy Nights, Company Events, Conventions, Fraternal Organizations, Motorcycle/Biker Rallies, Office Parties, House Parties, and more.
What size of audiences do you usually entertain?
I’ve performed as a comedy-magician for all types of events and venues, from small house parties, to 1,500 seat theaters. But most of my crowds for live shows are typically between about 75 and 200 people. I also have a very fun “unplugged” close-up show for small groups (fewer than 30 people).
How much space will you need for your show?
I need about the same space as a small band – usually 8 ft deep by 12-16 ft wide will suffice. But, of course, the larger, the better. The full technical details about my show can be found HERE.
What will you need for sound and lighting?
I’m easy to work with. In most cases, when I’m working as the main entertainment (after-dinner show for a corporate event, for example), I can provide my own Sound and Lighting equipment, at no additional charge. I’ll just need some electricity to plug into. The full technical details about my show can be found HERE.
How long is your show?
Most of my headlining shows are about 60-70 minutes, but if you need a longer, 90 minute show (comedy club style), I can subcontract one of my comedian friends to be my opening act.
Where are you from, and how far do you travel?
I’m based out of Dubuque, Iowa, and am available to hire nationwide. Most of my gigs, however, are right here in the upper Midwest; Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.
How much do you charge?
Pricing varies, based on a number of factors. Please click here to send me a message and I’ll prepare a custom price quote for you (no-obligation).
